In your hall, how many converted to a JW from door to door in the last 10 years?
by just n from bethel inin mine that would be a big fat zero.. there have been a handful of teenage baptisms of jw children.. one that really was a foreign language group transfer.. but in the last ten years - there has not been one single convert from the d2d ministry.. btw - my congregation has had over 10 pioneers (real ones that actually do d2d, including elders) for the last decade.. not one.
10 x 70 hours a month x 120 months = 84,000 hours ... results = 0.. also most of our pioneers are pretty good at the door - some half way decent teachers.
one is sub co and another often is called to teach ... wait for it ... pioneer school!!!.

Don't feel bad zoiks. I did my fair share of converting as well.I just figure that as news gets out that I'm not a JW it'll make my true friends call me - or at least stop and think.
But I look back to when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s and remember my parents always having studies and them getting baptized - and many directly from the D2D. What happened?
Seriously - let's say you're a publisher in my old hall with a territory of 20,000+ but cong members well under 100. You have several long-time elder pioneers, who have taught pioneer school - but yet in the last decade none of them have been able to convert 1 single person from the territory. I mean they can't even convert the crazy unibomber guy that they've been placing magazines with for 15+ years. How do the rest of the publishers feel? If multiple 20+ year pioneer elders can't convert one single person - how the hell can others be expected to do better?
I love it when the CO comes and says something like "there's been a 1/2 % increase in magazine placements - so that's very commendable. Activity is up by 2% and you had 1 more than last year sign up for aux pioneering. This really shows Jehovah is blessing your spirit."
Here's how it should've gone "I'm the 4th CO you guys have had since the last time a new person from the territory got baptized. Are the tract campaigns not working? They've had great results in your sister Spanish congregation. Really we're at a loss. Mother WT Org has given you incredible tools - really pointed tracts - a bible study offerring day - but nothing seems to be able to reach the hearts of your diverse territory. Oh well - don't be discouraged. Take comfort knowing that it's like that in all your fellow English congregations. Let's give thanks to Jah that he keeps the growth growing through all those humble immigrants."
Yep - life as a pioneer is definitely fruitless labor. It reminds me of that scene in cool hand luke where they keep asking him to dig a hole and refill it. Nothing gets done really - but the sheep learn to obey - and that's what it's all about (just like the hokey pokey song).

Jehovah's who or what??? Never heard of them - But I'm from China/Middle East/Pakistan/N Korea - you say they're the group chosen by the Supreme Being of the universe???? He's using them alone to spread his message?? And he's All-powerful right? No population growth or fanatical tyranical government could be an obstacle for his chosen tool could it? Surely they'll contact me any day now. Hello? Hello?

The 84,000 does not include all the aux pioneers and other publishers - many of whom do way more than the average.
Again, that's 10 years - 84,000 hours - 0 results. Good teachers too - what does that say about the product?

Child Abuse At The Meetings
by Hairyhegoat inplease read and i will tell you now this was it was like for me !.
kingdom halls are a hellish memory for me.
i grew up as a jehovah's witness from the age of 9 until i fought my way to freedom at age 18. i recall children as young as a year old being beaten repeatedly for not sitting still during services...some sessions, called assemblies, were 6 hours long and lasted for 3-5 days in succession.. my nephew was one of many who felt the literal sting of the watchtower's stance of "spare the rod, spoil the child.

Because if you lovingly discipline your children it can lead to a happy family life.
From the assembly: "sure we do things together as family - we love our vacations together"

But in the end, DY chimes in with some deeply insightful words of wisdom: Parents just need to be smart about it.
Because we all know - what geniuses most JWs are - especially in parenting. Here are some pictures from my previous congregations that will illustrate just how smart JWs are:

DY says:
children in time learn to behave and pay attention
So DY... what's your excuse? Why haven't you learned to pay attention to the governing body about coming to sites like these? What is it you do during the meetings when they talk about associating with disfellowshipped people and bringing in bad association to your home via means of the internet and apostate sites like this? Are you getting up to play with the water fountain? Are you coloring in your theocratic books? Perhaps it's time you learn to behave and pay attention. Maybe a swat by a certain monkey would keep you in line.

Wow, DY every other sentence of yours is just nuttier than the last. You state:
it's atrocious how many religions have to hold separate gatherings for the children
Yes it's amazing how all these different religious groups take a special interest in the children during their developmental period. I mean they must be crazy to be so keenly interested in the way in which children learn the best. The worst thing of all though is that their interest doesn't just stop in the toddler/youth group stage - but often continues right on up to their young adult stages in life. Isn't that disgusting?!!! I mean can you imagine if JWs wasted time trying to take a special interest in the children - setting up programs to help them get on their feet as an adult?!! Crazy. Yep, DY, It would be truly despicable if the Watchtower had any program like these set up by other religions:
Yep - stupid religions - never taking any serious interest in training or educating young people. If only they could be like JWs - how much better this world would be.

She also says: There's this examplary family in the KH that plays games with the kids by asking them to count the # of times certain word
Now that I think about it this might work, so long as the words are "obedience or obey" "governing body" or "faithful and discreet slave" - in that case they would be quite busy. They probably wouldn't be able to keep up. After the meeting when the parents count the markings and see that the kids missed a few times, they can spank them for not paying closer attention.
Of course if the word is "Jesus", the kids might grow bored due to how little that word gets used.
